GMC Census 2027
GMC authorities have shared the instruction with concerned personnel involved in Census 2027 duties and asked them to maintain coordination while carrying out preparatory work.

Guwahati: Employees assigned to Census 2027 duties under the Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) will not be allowed to take leave without prior approval from the competent authority, as preparations for the nationwide exercise continue.

The instruction was issued by GMC Commissioner and Principal Census Officer Chinmoy Prakash Phookan in an order released on July 17.

He directed all department heads to ensure that the concerned personnel follow the guideline.

The order stated that census workers, including trainers, supervisors, enumerators and other officials, must remain engaged in their assigned roles and cannot be removed from census-related responsibilities without official clearance.

The civic body has reminded census personnel that any attempt to alter or misuse official records will invite legal action under the Census Act, 1948.

Those found guilty under Section 11 of the Act may face a maximum punishment of three years in prison, a fine of up to Rs 1,000, or both.
