Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday expressed gratitude to former Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, praising his role in implementing the National Education Policy (NEP) and expanding higher education infrastructure across the country.
In a post on X, Sarma said Pradhan had worked to “restore the civilisational spirit of Bharat” and decolonise India’s education system during his tenure as Union Education Minister. He described the implementation of the National Education Policy as one of Pradhan’s most significant contributions, saying it was carried out despite political challenges.
The chief minister also acknowledged Pradhan’s support for Assam, stating that the former minister had consistently stood by the state whenever assistance was required.
Referring to the recent inauguration of the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Guwahati, Sarma said the milestone reflected Pradhan’s vision of making quality higher education accessible across the country. He added that the people of Assam would remain grateful for the institution and Pradhan’s contribution to the state’s education sector.
As Pradhan demitted office, Sarma thanked him for what he described as his dedication, humility and service. He also wished the former Union minister good health and success, expressing confidence that he would continue serving the nation with the same commitment in future roles.
Sarma concluded his message by saying that Assam would always remember Pradhan’s affection for the state and his contribution to its educational development.
