Haflong: The Assam Cricket Association (ACA) on Saturday inaugurated a floodlighting system at the ACA Cricket Stadium in Umrangso, Dima Hasao, enabling the venue to host day-night matches and expand cricketing activities in the hill district.
The facility was inaugurated by Dima Hasao Autonomous Council Chief Executive Member Debolal Gorlosa in the presence of Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Honorary Secretary Devajit Saikia, who attended the event as the guest of honour.
According to the ACA, the floodlights will allow the stadium to host day-night matches, improve training facilities and provide greater opportunities for domestic and competitive cricket in the region.
The project is part of the association’s efforts to expand cricket infrastructure beyond major urban centres and promote the sport across Assam.
Speaking at the event, Gorlosa said the floodlighting facility would encourage young cricketers from Dima Hasao by providing improved infrastructure and opportunities to pursue the sport.
The programme was attended by ACA Apex Council member Mukutananda Bhattacharjya, former ACA secretary Tridib Konwar, former ACA vice-president Porikshit Dutta, members of the local cricket community and other dignitaries.
An exhibition match between the CEM XI and the ACA Secretary XI was organised to mark the inauguration of the new facility.
The inaugural match of the Sengya Tularam Trophy cricket tournament was also played on the day, with Umrangso Cricket Club defeating Diyungbra Sports Association.
ACA officials said the addition of floodlights would strengthen cricket infrastructure in Dima Hasao and support the development of sporting talent in the state.
