Guwahati: The Sivasagar district administration has requested a 10-day extension of the summer vacation for schools severely affected by the ongoing floods, citing concerns over students’ safety and well-being.
Around 500 schools in the district have been impacted by the floods, affecting the education of more than 70,000 students. Sivasagar Inspector of Schools Samiran Bora has written to the Directorate of Secondary Education and the Directorate of Elementary Education, seeking approval to extend the summer break for flood-hit schools until August 10.
The extension has been proposed to allow schools more time to recover from flood-related damage and ensure that students are not exposed to unsafe conditions. The administration has stated that schools not affected by the floods will reopen as scheduled on August 1, subject to approval of the extension request.
If approved, the decision will keep flood-affected schools closed for an additional 10 days, offering relief to students, parents and school authorities as Sivasagar continues its recovery from the flood situation.
