Guwahati: Four patients were injured after a portion of the ceiling collapsed inside the Plastic Surgery department of Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) in Guwahati on Thursday, July 30, creating panic among patients and hospital staff.
According to preliminary information, a section of the ceiling suddenly fell inside the ward, hitting patients who were undergoing treatment. The incident led to confusion in the department as hospital staff rushed to the spot and helped the injured patients.
The affected patients were immediately attended to by medical personnel, and hospital authorities said their condition remains stable.
Sources said the ceiling had reportedly been in a poor condition for some time, with concerns over maintenance and repairs. The collapse has raised questions about infrastructure upkeep at GMCH, one of Assamโs leading government hospitals.
Authorities are yet to provide details on the exact cause of the incident or announce any formal inquiry into the ceiling collapse.
