Imphal: Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh on Saturday joined the nationwide launch of the ‘Nasha Mukta Yuva for Viksit Bharat Sankalp Abhiyaan’ at Manipur University, urging young people to stay away from drugs and play an active role in nation-building.
The programme, held at the university auditorium, was organised by the NSS Cell of Manipur University in collaboration with the State NSS Cell under the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the campaign from New Delhi through a nationwide virtual interaction with youth across the country.
As part of the programme, participants took a pledge for a drug-free India, reaffirming their commitment to reject substance abuse and spread awareness about its harmful effects.
Addressing the virtual gathering, Prime Minister Modi said that achieving the vision of Viksit Bharat requires a generation of physically and mentally healthy, confident and disciplined youth. He urged young people to stay away from drugs and called on every citizen to support the nationwide anti-drug movement.
Speaking at the event in Imphal, Khemchand Singh said the goal of Viksit Bharat @2047 could only be achieved with a healthy, disciplined and drug-free youth population. He encouraged the youth of Manipur to contribute to the state’s and the nation’s progress by rejecting drugs and actively participating in nation-building.
Vice-Chancellor of Manipur University Prof. R.K. Hemakumar Singh also addressed the gathering and urged students to honour the anti-drug pledge by becoming ambassadors of awareness in their schools, colleges and local communities. He called on young people to work collectively towards building a drug-free society.
The programme was attended by Manipur University Registrar Prof. M. Premjit Singh, officials of the NSS Cell, faculty members, NSS volunteers, students and other dignitaries.
