Imphal: Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh attended the inaugural ceremony of the 10 Crores Addiction-Free Pledge Mega Campaign at Pheidinga in Imphal. The event was held under the Nasha Mukta Bharat Abhiyaan and Mission SPANDAN (Spiritual Partnership Against Narcotic Drug Abuse).
It was organised by the Brahma Kumaris, Manipur, in collaboration with its Medical Wing (Rajyoga Education and Research Foundation).
Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister said Prime Minister Narendra Modi has envisioned Viksit Bharat 2047 to make India a leading developed nation. He said achieving this vision requires the country’s youth to remain completely free from drugs.
Noting that the nationwide campaign had begun recently, he expressed pride in Manipur joining the national movement.
Recalling his youth, when drug abuse was at its peak, the Chief Minister said he chose to stay away from intoxicants to focus on public service. He urged young people to make the same choice and contribute to building a brighter future for Manipur.
Expressing concern over organised networks supplying drugs to youths through various channels, he assured the public that the government would continue its strong action against drug trafficking.
During the programme, the Chief Minister honoured Rajyogini BK Nilima, In-charge of Brahma Kumaris, Manipur, with the Universal Peace Ambassador Award for her social and spiritual services. He also launched the campaign voucher and led participants in taking a pledge for a drug-free India.
The event was attended by Home Minister Govindas Konthoujam; Jugindro Sorokhaibam, Director of Medical Services at Shija Hospitals and Research Institute; R.K. Lenin Singh, Professor of Psychiatry at RIMS, Imphal; social activist Ima Puinabati Konsam; N. Irabanta Singh, Vice President of the Association of Indian Private Universities (AIPU); and members of the Brahma Kumaris.
