Doomdooma: A 37-year-old man arrested in connection with an alleged trafficking and exploitation case involving minor girls in Assam’s Tinsukia district was sent to judicial custody on Monday after completing three days of police remand.
Tushar Goyal of Tinsukia was produced before Special POCSO Judge Mohammad Imdad Ahmad following the completion of his custodial interrogation. The court subsequently remanded him to judicial custody.
Goyal was arrested on Thursday in connection with Tinsukia Sadar Police Station Case No. 1060/2026. The case has been registered under several sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
The charges include Sections 61(2), 96, 123, 127(4), 137(2), 143(5), 144(1), 337 and 340(2) of the BNS, along with Sections 4, 5 and 6 of the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act and Sections 4 and 17 of the POCSO Act.
Investigators have identified Goyal as an alleged customer and are examining his suspected links with other individuals arrested in the case. His police remand was granted to allow investigators to question him and examine his alleged role in the suspected network.
The investigation gained momentum following the arrest of Puja Das of Tinsukia, whom investigators have allegedly identified as a key figure in the case. Police have so far arrested seven people and rescued four minor girls from different parts of the district, according to sources.
The rescued girls were allegedly lured with promises of education and employment before being brought into the suspected network. Investigators are examining how the minors were allegedly recruited, transported and accommodated.
Police are also looking into whether hotels or other establishments were allegedly used to facilitate activities connected with the case and whether additional individuals or locations were involved.
With Goyal now in judicial custody, investigators are expected to examine and corroborate evidence gathered during the investigation and determine the alleged roles of those arrested.
The allegations against the accused remain under investigation, and their guilt has not been established by a court.
The identities of the minor victims have not been disclosed in accordance with legal provisions.
