Guwahati: The Mahavir Aqua case will be heard by a fast-track court on August 12 amid allegations that the packaged drinking water unit resumed operations despite an earlier order to keep it closed.
The facility is located at Assam’s Chhaygaon Industrial Development Centre and is allegedly linked to Siddharth Sharma, former manager of late singer Zubeen Garg. Justice Sharmila Bhuyan will hear the case.
The fast-track court had ordered the unit to be sealed as part of the investigation into Garg’s death.
Sources have alleged that the facility has been functioning for some time despite the order. Local residents and others claim that the main gate remains closed, while workers from outside are allegedly being brought in to work inside the premises.
The allegations have added to the issues surrounding the business, which came under investigation in connection with Garg’s death.
The legal dispute over Mahavir Aqua is also before the Gauhati High Court. Chetan Dhirasariya, a business associate of Sharma, has challenged the fast-track court’s seizure order dated April 29.
The fast-track court had also ordered the seizure of the company after allegations emerged that Sharma had put money into the business. As part of the investigation, it ordered the freezing of his bank accounts and those of several people who had financial dealings with him.
The court is now set to hear the matter on August 12, including issues related to the sealed unit and claims that work continued there despite the closure order.
There has been no independent confirmation of the allegations that the facility was reopened or remained operational.
