Manipur women legal awareness
Manipur State Commission for Women organises a legal awareness programme in Imphal to educate women about their rights and remedies.

Imphal: The Manipur State Commission for Women (MSCW), in collaboration with the Women Department of the Manipur Baptist Convention (MBC), organised a one-day legal awareness programme at the MBC Training Hall in Imphal on Wednesday.

The programme aimed to improve womenโ€™s understanding of their legal rights and the remedies available to them in cases of rights violations.

Delivering the keynote address, MSCW Member Secretary and Additional Director of Information and Public Relations, Manipur, W. Phajatombi Devi (MCS), said the programme was part of a two-day seminar organised by the MBC.

She stressed the importance of legal literacy in empowering women and said active participation from attendees was essential to making such programmes meaningful.

Phajatombi said resource persons at the programme would explain various legal provisions and guide participants on how to access available legal remedies.

She also urged women secretaries attending the programme to share the knowledge gained with their respective communities to strengthen legal awareness at the grassroots level.

MSCW Chairperson Th. Tiningpham Monsang said the Commission, established in 2006, frequently receives cases involving women who are unaware of their legal rights.

She said the MSCW serves as a platform where women can lodge complaints and seek assistance, adding that regular legal awareness camps are necessary to educate, empower and protect women across Manipur.
