Guwahati: A Facebook account has allegedly threatened to kill Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma during a live online broadcast of his Independence Day address, according to a report.
The account was reportedly operated by a user identified as Abdul Mutaleb, who posted the alleged threat while Sarma’s Independence Day programme was being streamed.
The reported post allegedly offered a monetary reward to anyone who carried out the killing and also included pro-Pakistan slogans and remarks against India.
The incident has prompted concern among security agencies, which are reportedly trying to establish the identity of the person behind the account.
Authorities are examining the user’s social media activity and other available information to assess whether the reported threat represents a genuine security risk or was intended to provoke or intimidate.
