Doomdooma: An angry mob allegedly set fire to the residence of a man accused of attempting to rape an elderly woman at Barmura Miripather village under Dhola Police Station in Upper Assam‘s Tinsukia district on Saturday night.

According to the victim and local residents, the accused allegedly entered the elderly womanโ€™s house around midnight and attempted to sexually assault her.

The woman managed to resist the alleged assault and save herself, while the accused reportedly fled the spot.

Local residents later informed Dhola Police about the incident. Anger grew among villagers over the alleged delay in apprehending the accused, following which a group of people reportedly went to his residence and set it on fire.

Local residents have demanded the immediate arrest of the accused and urged the administration to take action over the alleged assault.

Police are expected to investigate both the alleged assault and the circumstances surrounding the burning of the accusedโ€™s house.

The allegations against the accused have not yet been established in court.
