Doomdooma: The Doomdooma regional unit of the Assam Jatiyatabadi Yuva-Chatra Parishad (AJYCP) on Tuesday urged the Assam government to upgrade the 30-bed Doomdooma First Referral Unit (FRU) into a full-fledged co-district hospital, citing the growing healthcare needs of the region.
The organisation submitted a memorandum to Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and Health Minister through the Doomdooma co-district Commissioner, seeking government intervention to strengthen healthcare infrastructure in the area.
According to the AJYCP, the Doomdooma FRU has assumed greater importance as residents of Doomdooma, Digboi, Sadiya and Makum Assembly constituencies depend on the facility for medical services.
The hospital also caters to residents of more than 50 tea gardens under the Doomdooma Revenue Circle, besides people from surrounding villages and urban areas.
The organisation said the existing 30-bed facility is under substantial pressure due to the large population dependent on it for essential medical services. It said the hospital’s capacity and infrastructure needs to be expanded to meet the region’s growing healthcare requirements.
The memorandum also highlighted the healthcare needs of government employees and personnel associated with national security establishments in the area, stressing the importance of timely and accessible medical treatment.
The AJYCP demanded that the state government formally declare the Doomdooma FRU a Doomdooma co-district hospital and upgrade its infrastructure and services accordingly.
The memorandum was submitted by AJYCP Doomdooma regional president Hirak Jyoti Moran and general secretary Chhatrapati Moran.
