Guwahati: The Department of Power, Nagaland, has signed a 25-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with M/s Tvaksas Renewable Pvt. Ltd for the development of a 20 MW solar power plant at Tizit in Mon district.

The agreement was signed at the Nagaland Civil Secretariat Conference Hall on Thursday in the presence of the Principal Secretary, Power; Chief Engineer (T&G); Chief Engineer (D&R); and other officers of the Power Department, officers of the Finance Department, officers of Law & Justice, and representatives of M/s Tvaksas Renewable Pvt. Ltd.

The company was represented by Directors Bhakti Dave and Nayaan Ratandhayara, along with its representatives from Nagaland, Nokpai Wangsha, Longshah Konyak and Minul Haque, among others.

Chief Engineer (T&G) Nitovi A. Wotsa said the present peak demand of the state is 203 MW and is expected to reach 482 MW by 2034-35. Accordingly, the state has drawn up a plan to enhance its generation capacity to meet the projected demand.

He said that, apart from developing generation projects through state-owned resources, the state encourages private-sector participation to promote local generation and augment available capacity to meet the growing electricity demand.

The Principal Secretary, Power, said there was a need to enhance the stateโ€™s generation capacity. He said solar projects, unlike other projects with a high gestation period, can be implemented within a short period and are therefore suitable for Nagaland.

He requested the developer to complete the project ahead of schedule, as assured by the company. He also urged the developer to support local people with employment opportunities during the construction and operation of the project.

The 20 MW solar project will be developed by M/s Tvaksas Renewable Pvt. Ltd at Lapa Lampong Village, Tizit, in Mon district. The project will augment the stateโ€™s renewable energy generation capacity and aid Nagaland in meeting its Renewable Consumption Obligations (RCO).

The Phase-1 project, with a capacity of 20 MW, will be commissioned within 20 months and supply clean energy at a fixed tariff of 4.12 rupees per kWh, approved by the Nagaland Electricity Regulatory Commission.

The project is expected to generate employment, strengthen grid reliability in the remote Mon region and contribute to Indiaโ€™s renewable energy mission.

Tvaksas Renewable plans to scale the programme up to 100 MW in phases, bringing long-term investment, skill development and climate finance opportunities to Nagaland.

Bhakti Dave, Director of Tvaksas Renewable Pvt. Ltd., said the 20 MW solar project at Tizit will open avenues for local employment and youth job creation, while signalling investment opportunities for other industrialists in Nagaland.

She said the 25-year Power Purchase Agreement ensures predictable electricity costs and long-term budget savings for the state. The project, being built within Nagaland, will strengthen local infrastructure and support district-level development.

Dave also spoke about the environmental benefits of solar energy, saying it reduces carbon footprint and protects the planet while securing stable energy costs for years ahead. She added that the initiative contributes to Indiaโ€™s renewable energy mission of 500 GW by 2030 and aligns with commitments made at the COP26 summit.

Another Director of Tvaksas said his initial scepticism about setting up a solar power plant in Nagaland changed to confidence after experiencing the warmth of the people and the potential of the region.

He said the 20 MW solar project is significant in connecting Nagaland to the global green energy movement and contributing to Indiaโ€™s target of 500 GW of renewable capacity by 2030.

He said the real work begins after signing the agreement and assured full dedication from Tvaksas Renewable Pvt. Ltd. He also assured close collaboration with the Nagaland Power Department for smooth execution, long-term maintenance and a reliable partnership.

He expressed gratitude to the local team and partners whose efforts made the project possible and reaffirmed his commitment to building a sustainable future for both Nagaland and the company.

Nayaan Ratandhayara, Director of Tvaksas Renewable Pvt. Ltd., said the 20 MW solar plant at Tizit will deliver around 35 million units of power annually to Nagalandโ€™s grid for the next 25 years, reducing dependence on outside supply and saving costs.

He said the project will avoid nearly 25,000 tonnes of carbon emissions each year while creating jobs for local youth during construction and operation.

Ratandhayara also spoke about Tizitโ€™s strategic location and thanked the Department of Power and NERC for their support. He added that the mission is to generate clean power inside Nagaland, for Nagaland.
