Imphal: Imphal West district police arrested a 26-year-old man and seized an illegal firearm, along with a magazine loaded with live ammunition, from his possession on Monday, police said.
The accused was identified as Oinam Gipson Singh, 26, alias Gypsy alias Cheichatpa, a resident of Kwakeithel Laishram Leikai in Imphal West district and son of Binod Singh. He was arrested during an operation at his hideout in Moidangpok Maning Leikai under the jurisdiction of the same district.
A .32 pistol, a magazine loaded with four rounds of .32 ammunition and two communication devices were recovered from his possession.
During on-the-spot interrogation, Singh was asked to produce official documents for the firearm but failed to do so, following which he was arrested and the items were seized.
He was subsequently booked under the Arms Act, 1959, and relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023.
The police said the accused and the seized items were later handed over to the concerned police station for further legal action.
