Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said on August 28 that the state government has so far identified 12 people from Assam who remain untraced in Nepal following the flash flood disaster.
Sarma said efforts are underway to establish contact with the people on the list and ensure their safe rescue. He said details of the 12 people had been established and efforts were underway to get in touch with them.
The people named by the chief minister are from Karbi Anglong, Golaghat, Hojai, Kamrup Metropolitan and Nalbari districts.
Rhituopurno Brahma, Montri Basumatary and Soneswar Narzary are from Daidak village under Dokmoka police station in Karbi Anglong.
Rahul Daimary of Jaipukhuri under Merapani police station in Golaghat and Shatadal Nath of Doboka in Hojai are also on the list.
Six others are from Kamrup Metropolitan and Nalbari districts. Pankaj Naug is from Rukmini Gaon in Guwahati, while Dipali Sarkar and Manash Kr Ghosh are from Lankeshwar in Guwahati.
Pankaj Barman, Arun Mahanta and Samar Bezbaruah are from Nalbari. Barman and Bezbaruah were later confirmed safe by their families.
Tirtha Chaliha of Nalbari Medical College and Hospital is also among the people named in the list.
