Doomdooma: Police have intensified the investigation into the death of 26-year-old Chinmoy Jyoti Changmai in Assam’s Tinsukia, with a woman and her mother arrested and a search launched for a third accused in connection with the case.
Changmai, a resident of Bordoloi Nagar, was found critically injured outside the JSB Spring Field residential complex in Tinsukia town around midnight on August 27.
He was initially taken to Tinsukia Civil Hospital and later shifted to Assam Medical College and Hospital (AMCH) in Dibrugarh, where he died while undergoing treatment.
According to the FIR lodged by Changmai’s mother, Riturani Changmai, he had gone to the residential complex after allegedly receiving a call from a woman identified as Ananya Senapati, a law student.
The complaint alleges that an altercation subsequently took place inside the building and that Changmai was pushed from an upper floor.
Police have arrested Ananya Senapati and her mother, Juhi Senapati, a teacher at a private educational institution. The third accused, Nilim Jyoti Senapati, identified as an associate professor at Tinsukia College, is reportedly absconding, and a search has been launched to trace him.
Police have registered case number 0198/26 at Tinsukia Sadar Police Station under Sections 61(1)(a), 103(1) and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. The accused were produced before a court and remanded in judicial custody.
Police said the allegations are yet to be established and that all circumstances surrounding Changmai’s injuries and death remain under investigation.
Investigators are questioning the accused and other persons connected with the incident, besides examining available evidence to reconstruct the sequence of events.
