Guwahati: Several people who were present at the time of Assam’s cultural icon Zubeen Garg’s death in Singapore are awaiting an opportunity to record their statements before the court, Singapore-based witness Parikshit Sharma said on Thursday.

Sharma, who was among those present during the incident, completed his testimony before the fast-track court hearing the case over two days. He said several others who were in Singapore at the time were also waiting for an opportunity to place their accounts before the judiciary.

According to Sharma, around 15 to 26 people were present during the incident, and each has their own account of what happened. He said 11 of those who were in Singapore are awaiting an opportunity to appear before the court and complete the process.

Sharma said those who were present wanted to cooperate with the judicial proceedings and would give their statements when called upon.

His statement was recorded before the court on Wednesday and Thursday, after which he was cross-examined by the counsel representing the accused.

Sharma said he had placed his account before the court and hopes that his testimony would contribute to securing justice for Garg.

He declined to disclose details of the incident, citing the ongoing trial and his position as a witness.

Sharma had previously appeared before the court on October 13 last year. He also recorded his statement before the one-member judicial commission a day before his latest appearance before the court.

For his latest appearance, Sharma said he received a summons on August 25 and travelled to India on September 2.

He urged people to have faith in the judicial process, saying the court’s eventual verdict would establish the actual sequence of events surrounding Garg’s death.

Sharma also spoke about Garg’s significance to those who were with him in Singapore, saying his contribution to their lives is difficult to put into words.

He reiterated that the details surrounding the incident should emerge through the legal process and that those who were present would place their respective accounts before the appropriate forum when called upon.

Sharma said the people who were in Singapore had already shared their accounts before the judicial commission and would provide whatever further information is required before the court.
