Agartala: Tipra Motha Party supremo Pradyot Kishore Debbarman on Saturday said the coming month would be crucial for securing the full implementation of the Tiprasa Accord, a day after he and Chief Minister Manik Saha met Union Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi.
In a Facebook Live, Debbarman said he had taken note of Saha’s statement following the meeting and claimed that Shah had asked the chief minister to inform the people of Tripura that the accord would be implemented within a month.
Debbarman said the discussions in New Delhi covered issues concerning the interests of the people, including land rights and financial autonomy of the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council.
“We have to get this agreement implemented fully and finally,” he said, adding that he would seek the best possible arrangement for the people in terms of financial support and rights.
He said the delegation had not gone to Delhi seeking personal positions or political benefits, but to raise issues concerning the people of the state.
Referring to Tripura’s history of violence, Debbarman said the situation had changed since Tipra Motha came to power. “Our threat is outside India,” he said, without elaborating.
He also criticised the CPI(M), claiming that despite its long tenure in power, the state had not secured adequate rights following the BK Hrangkhawl accord.
On the political future of Tipra Motha, Debbarman said any decision on an alliance would be based on the prevailing political situation.
He said the party would need to remain clear about whether its priority was electoral politics or safeguarding the interests of the people, while ensuring that other communities were not adversely affected.
Debbarman said he had consulted several people before the Delhi meeting and sought their views on issues that should not be compromised.
He did not disclose the specific details discussed with Shah or provide a detailed implementation schedule beyond referring to the next month.
