Aizawl: Mizoram’s Kolasib and Assam’s Cachar districts have stepped up coordination for an inter-state border festival scheduled to be held at Vairengte on October 30, with senior officials meeting on Tuesday to finalise preparations and discuss cooperation along the border.
Kolasib Deputy Commissioner H. Dolianbuaia and Cachar Deputy Commissioner Rahul Kumar Gupta held discussions at the Cachar DC’s Conference Hall on the arrangements for the festival, according to an official statement.
The officials agreed to extend all possible cooperation for the conduct of the event, which will feature futsal, badminton, volleyball and table tennis, along with cultural presentations showcasing the ethnic diversity of the region.
The meeting also focused on strengthening peace and security among border residents, intensifying joint efforts to combat drug trafficking and expanding cooperation between the two districts in various areas of development, the statement said.
Kolasib Superintendent of Police Lalrinpuia Varte and his Cachar counterpart Partha Protim Das also held separate discussions on closer coordination in law enforcement and measures to combat drug trafficking across their respective jurisdictions, the statement added.
