Digboi: Candidates backed by the All Assam Gorkha Studentsโ€™ Union (AAGSU) won the two key posts in the 2026-27 Digboi College (Autonomous) Studentsโ€™ Union election.

Anuj Upadhyay was elected President and Chhabilal Sharma was elected General Secretary.

Both AAGSU-backed candidates defeated nominees supported by the All Assam Studentsโ€™ Union (AASU) by substantial margins.

Elections were held only for the President and General Secretary posts, while five other positions were filled unopposed.

Paban Chetry was elected Minor Games Secretary, Tanisha Upadhyay Debate Secretary, Abhishek Prajapati Vice-President, Bompi Gamlin Major Games Secretary and Anannya Dutta Sharma Girlsโ€™ Common Room Secretary.

After the results were announced, Gorkha students took out a rally from the main gate of Digboi College to Digboi town. The newly elected representatives were later felicitated.

AAGSU Tinsukia district functionaries, including President-in-Charge Suman Chetry, General Secretary Shankar Jaisy, Education Secretary Khem Bahadur Chetry, former Tingrai Regional Committee President Mohan Chetry, District Committee member Sibu Chetry and Cultural Adviser Jun Pradhan, attended the programme.

The AAGSU leaders asked the new office-bearers to use their mandate responsibly, remain accessible to students and work across organisational lines for academic welfare, campus discipline and the interests of the student community.
