Imphal: The Manipur government on Saturday continued providing financial assistance and healthcare services to internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Senapati and Churachandpur districts, according to an official statement.
In Senapati, the District Health Society, led by Chief Medical Officer Sumpi Percy, organised a health awareness programme and free medical camp at the Emesiiphro Community Hall.
Nodal Officer Losica said 62 people underwent routine health check-ups during the camp. Health conditions identified among the beneficiaries included upper respiratory tract infections, viral illnesses, dietary and sleep-related disorders, and hypertension. Free medicines and other medical supplies were distributed to those requiring treatment.
The relief facilities at Emesiiphro Community Hall and Liangmai Taphou were jointly established by the Naga People’s Organisation (NPO) and the Senapati District Administration to assist people displaced by the ongoing conflict in the state.
In Churachandpur, the district administration said 5,195 IDPs residing in 19 functioning relief camps are currently receiving financial assistance through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT).
A further 10,214 displaced people living outside relief camps are also receiving financial support through the DBT system.
The figures and details of the relief measures were presented to newly appointed Chief Secretary Rajeev Singh Thakur during his visit to Churachandpur on Saturday. Officials also briefed him on the progress and challenges related to healthcare, livelihood support, rehabilitation and other ongoing relief initiatives.
The ethnic conflict in Manipur, which began in May 2023 between the Meitei and Kuki communities, has resulted in at least 306 deaths and 49 missing persons, while displacing tens of thousands of people across the state.
