Imphal: Manipur Police arrested 56-year-old Sheleibam Yaima of Sekmai Parao on Friday in connection with the firing on Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel at Khonghampat Awang Leikai, officials said on Saturday.
A group of unidentified armed miscreants opened fire on CRPF personnel deployed at the location around 5:20 pm on September 10. No CRPF personnel were injured in the incident.
According to official sources, the attackers fired several rounds at the security personnel.
A case was registered at Sekmai Police Station following the attack, and police launched a search for those involved.
Police also recovered a Maruti Alto car bearing registration number MN05A-9332, which was allegedly used by the miscreants. One empty cartridge case was recovered during a search of the vehicle.
The arrested accused was produced before a local court, which remanded him to eight days of police custody for interrogation.
Senior police officials said the investigation is underway to identify the other suspects and determine the circumstances of the attack.
