Guwahati: Two students of Girijananda Chowdhury University (GCU), Guwahati, Ms Charlene Mahalia and Ms Prachita Duara, pursuing Bachelor of Pharmacy (B Pharm), have been selected to participate in the IV Congress of the International Russophile Movement, scheduled to be held in Moscow, Russia, on September 16–17, 2026.
The two GCU students began their journey from Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport in Guwahati on Monday. They will participate in the international gathering as members of a 30-member Indian delegation.
The selection of the two students is a matter of pride for Girijananda Chowdhury University and reflects the growing participation of its students in international cultural and educational initiatives.
Their participation will provide them with an opportunity to interact with representatives from different countries and gain first-hand exposure to Russia’s historical and cultural heritage, as well as international dialogue on education, culture and people-to-people relations.
The International Movement of Russophiles brings together public figures, representatives of the cultural and scientific communities, members of the expert community and citizens from different countries interested in preserving and promoting Russian historical and cultural heritage abroad.
The IV Congress is envisaged as an international public platform bringing participants together around the values of historical memory, mutual respect, friendship and constructive international dialogue. It will place particular emphasis on Russia’s centuries-old history, culture, and spiritual and moral traditions.
The principal objectives of the Congress include strengthening international humanitarian and public relations; promoting dialogue and cooperation among representatives of culture, science and the expert community; supporting initiatives to preserve historical memory; safeguarding historical truth; fostering respect for Russian history and cultural heritage; promoting civic and patriotic education among the younger generation; and popularising Russian historical and cultural heritage among international audiences.
The Congress is expected to provide a platform for strengthening international public dialogue and people-to-people contacts based on mutual respect and a deeper understanding of history and culture.
The participation of Charlene Mahalia and Prachita Duara is particularly significant as young representatives from Assam, highlighting the role students and universities can play in strengthening India-Russia friendship and cultural understanding among the younger generation.
