Imphal: The Thadou Inpi Manipur (TIM) has urged the Centre and the Manipur government to undertake a comprehensive disarmament of all armed groups operating in the state, including those covered by the Suspension of Operations (SoO) framework.
In a press statement, the Thadou tribal apex body called for strict legal action under anti-terror laws against groups that refuse to surrender their weapons. It also criticised what it described as the exploitation of ethnic divisions and political use of armed factions, while questioning the effectiveness of the extensive security deployment in the state.
The demand follows recent killings, including the September 13 deaths of four villagers at Tollen and Longpi and the killing of two women at Leisang village. Expressing condolences to the bereaved families, TIM said the recurring attacks reflected a failure by the authorities to protect civilians.
The organisation also criticised repeated government assurances, condemnations and ex-gratia payments, saying these had failed to address the continuing cycle of violence.
TIM raised concerns over the unresolved killings of three Thadou pastors in Kangpokpi district on May 13, 2026. The area, it said, falls within the operational footprint of Kuki SoO groups, including the Kuki Revolutionary Army (KRA) and Kuki National Front (KNF).
The organisation also questioned the progress of cases transferred to the National Investigation Agency (NIA), saying federal investigations should result in visible investigations, arrests and prosecutions rather than lose public attention.
For long-term stability, TIM called for the immediate dissolution or banning of armed groups operating near civilian hubs.
It also called for the imposition of President’s Rule if the state and Centre were unable to restore the rule of law through what it described as absolute disarmament and impartial justice.
