Agartala: Assam Rifles, working jointly with the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) and Tripura Police, seized 12.26 lakh Yaba tablets estimated to be worth Rs 98.08 crore in two separate operations across Khowai and North Tripura districts, officials said on Wednesday.
The operations were carried out on the night of September 15 following intelligence inputs received from the Assam Rifles Intelligence and Field Intelligence Unit (ARFIU) and other sources, according to an Assam Rifles statement.
In the first operation, Assam Rifles and the DRI intercepted a consignment at Khowai Choawmani in Teliamura, recovering 7.26 lakh Yaba tablets valued at around Rs 58.08 crore.
A man from Itakhola in Sonitpur district of Assam was arrested in connection with the seizure. The security agencies also confiscated a Tata truck allegedly being used to transport the contraband.
In a separate operation in Panisagar, North Tripura, Assam Rifles personnel and North Tripura Police recovered another 5 lakh Yaba tablets, estimated to be worth around Rs 40 crore.
A second man, identified as a resident of Nagrmari in Assam’s Morigaon district, was apprehended. A Tata truck was also seized during the operation.
According to Assam Rifles, the two seizures collectively accounted for more than 12 lakh Yaba tablets and were carried out as part of coordinated efforts to disrupt inter-state narcotics trafficking networks operating across the Northeast.
The arrested individuals, along with the seized tablets and vehicles, were handed over to the concerned authorities for further investigation and legal action, the force said.
