The controversy surrounding Meghalaya Governor Tathagata Royโ€˜s tweet simply refuges to die down.

On Saturday, senior Congress leader and former finance Minister P Chidambaram dared Prime Minister Narendra Modi to take action against the Meghalaya Governor over his remarks to boycott Kashmiri goods.

Chidambaram was quite vocal and criticized the Central Government saying it was extending its โ€˜muscular, militaristic approachโ€™ to the Northeast which it failed to execute in Jammu and Kashmir.

In a series of tweets, Chidambaram on his official Twitter handle wrote:

โ€˜Waiting to see if the Prime Minister will take action against the Governor of Meghalaya.โ€™

His remarks came days after Roy made a controversial tweet urging people to boycott goods prepared and manufactured by Kashmiris, in the wake of the Pulwama terror attack on a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) convoy that killed 40 troopers.

On February 19 last, the Meghalaya Governor had tweeted:

โ€˜An appeal from a retired colonel of the Indian Army: Donโ€™t visit Kashmir, donโ€™t go to Amarnath for the next 2 years. Donโ€™t buy articles from Kashmir emporia or Kashmiri tradesman who come every winter. Boycott everything Kashmiri. I am inclined to agree.โ€™

Chidambaram also came down heavily on the Central Governmentโ€™s decision to bestow extra power on the Assam Rifles, which, however, has been kept in abeyance.

In another tweet, the former finance minister wrote:

โ€˜When the cry is for more humane and just laws, government allows Assam Rifles to search and arrest without warrant.
