Senior journalist Jitumoni Bora began his career as a staff reporter at the Dainik Agradoot newspaper in 1992. He later served as News Editor at the now-defunct Aaji newspaper before returning to Agradoot.

In 2021, Bora transitioned from Agradoot to become the editor of Prag Digital. During this period, Prag Digital achieved unprecedented popularity.

Bora, who is presently the Chief Editor of the well-known digital news platform The Crosscurrent, has dedicated 34 years to the field of journalism. An insightful writer and keen observer, his detailed reports on social and political issues have significantly enhanced public awareness.

Jitumoni Bora has also authored 15 engaging and critically acclaimed books. His debut social novel, Shesh Pristha, presents a moving narrative that explores old age homes as places where human lives continue to persist and evolve.

In the sphere of political literature, Bora’s works such as Chiyahir Rong, Bikul, Janani, Bheti, Pitribhumi, and Padadhwani have received significant praise from readers. It is noteworthy that only a limited number of novels explore the period from the beginning of the Assam Movement to the formation of the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) government.

Bora’s novel Bikul spans four decades of Assam’s history during this pivotal era. Similarly, Janani addresses the anti-Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) movement and reflects contemporary Assamese society.

Before the emergence of the United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA), a significant movement had already begun in Assam, with historic Tezpur serving as its backdrop. The only Assamese novel addressing this subject is Bheti. Several editions of Bikul and Bheti have been published to date.

Except for Shesh Pristha, all of Bora’s novels are based on political events. Pitribhumi encapsulates the author’s vision of Assam 250 years into the future.

Bora’s prose collections include notable works such as Moi Asomiya Hoyei Thakim, Deshpremor Chaneki, Mukhyamontrir Mukhor Maat Aru Haator Ronga Sutadal, Duwar Khular Godyo, Herai Juwa Deutak, and Xare Thoka Manuh, which are widely regarded as some of his most popular contributions to Assamese literature.

In addition, Bora has written screenplays for critically acclaimed feature films such as Surjyasta and Chiyahir Rong, and has also written stories for two upcoming films, Burkha and The Last Honour, which are awaiting release.

Both films have been showcased at more than 25 film festivals, both nationally and internationally, earning considerable acclaim and recognition. Recently, the Asam Sahitya Sabha officially recognised Jitumoni Bora for his contributions to Assamese literature and intellectual discourse.

The President’s Special Literary Honour of the Asam Sahitya Sabha for the year 2025 was awarded to him by then-president Basanta Kumar Goswami during a ceremony held at the Sangeetacharya Lakshmiram Barua auditorium of the Bhagawati Prasad Baruah Bhawan in Guwahati.

Currently, along with journalism, Bora’s essays on life and political issues, published every Friday in the Protipokkho column of Dainik Janambhumi, are widely read and appreciated.

A resident of Guwahati, Bora hails from Deuri village in Tezpur.
