Guwahati: The Arunachal Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) has constituted an eight-member fact-finding committee (FFC) to examine issues arising from the indefinite hunger strike launched by the women of Ngorlung-Ralung village in East Siang district.

The protestors demand permanent closure or immediate relocation of a ferro-silicon plant operated by M/s Aether Alloys LLP at the Industrial Growth Centre in Niglok. The women have alleged that the state government had earlier assured them that the factory would be shifted, but the promise has not been fulfilled.

The FFC, headed by APCC vice president Yane Dai, visited the hunger strike site on Sunday and met the protesting women. The committee also carried out an on-site inspection of the factory to assess the situation.

In a statement, the APCC said it stood in solidarity with the women of Ngorlung-Ralung village in what it described as a “democratic and peaceful struggle.” It asserted that the health and safety of citizens must take precedence over industrial interests.

The committee will conduct a detailed study, document its findings and consult stakeholders before submitting a comprehensive report to APCC president Bosiram Siram within a stipulated timeframe.

“Based on the findings, the APCC will take appropriate steps to ensure justice, accountability, and protection of public health and the environment,” the party said.

The APCC also urged the state government to act with urgency and sensitivity, honour its earlier commitments and address the concerns of the local community without further delay.
