Guwahati: The first official border pillar between Assam and Arunachal Pradesh was installed at Seijosa in Pakke-Kessang district on Sunday, officials confirmed. The move is aimed at resolving the inter-State boundary dispute.

Authorities from both states closely oversaw the installation. The event was attended by the Deputy Commissioners of Arunachal Pradeshโ€™s Pakke Kessang district and Assamโ€™s Biswanath district, along with senior police officers, community leaders, and village heads.

The move follows the Namsai Declaration, signed in July 2022, which provided a framework to address the long-standing border disagreement. Since then, joint teams of ministers and officials from both states have conducted on-site inspections, reviewed historical documents, and consulted local communities to develop mutually agreeable solutions.

Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu called the installation of the Seijosa pillar a landmark achievement. He said it represents a shift from years of uncertainty to a period of clarity and stability for people living along the border.

Khandu added that the Seijosa pillar will serve as a model for completing the rest of the demarcation process, enhancing cooperation between the two states and fostering harmony, development, and confidence among residents of the border areas.

He also praised Health Minister Biyuram Wahge, who leads the Regional Committee for Pakke Kessang, along with district officials and local representatives, for their role in the project.

Minister Wahge described the pillar installation as a tangible step toward resolving the long-standing dispute, consistent with the Namsai Declaration.

Minister Wahge acknowledged the efforts of Arunachal Pradesh Home Minister Mama Natung and Assam Minister Pijush Hazarika, who heads the Regional Committee for Biswanath district, in supporting the initiative.
