Guwahati: Light snowfall is very likely to occur in the higher reaches of Arunachal Pradesh over the next few days, even as most parts of the Northeast are expected to witness dry weather accompanied by fog and a gradual dip in night temperatures, according to the latest forecast issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

The five-day outlook released by the IMD’s Regional Meteorological Centre, Guwahati, said light rain may occur at isolated places in Arunachal Pradesh, while snowfall is likely in the higher altitudes of the state.

Assam may receive light rain at isolated locations on some days, while dry conditions will prevail across Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura.

Meteorological officials said minimum temperatures across the region will remain largely unchanged, though night temperatures may dip in the coming days. They also warned that morning conditions will remain challenging, with shallow to moderate fog likely at isolated locations across all Northeastern states.

In some areas of Assam, Meghalaya and Manipur, dense fog may occur at isolated places.

The IMD attributed the prevailing weather pattern to an upper-air cyclonic circulation over north Bangladesh, persisting at around 1.5 km above mean sea level, while another circulation over northeast Assam has weakened.

According to the daily weather report, isolated places in Arunachal Pradesh recorded light rain over the past 24 hours, while the rest of the region experienced dry weather.

Night temperatures remained above normal in several states, including Assam and Meghalaya.

For Guwahati and its neighbouring areas, the IMD forecast fog or mist during morning hours, followed by mainly clear skies later in the day. Maximum temperatures are likely to range between 20°C and 23°C, while minimum temperatures may vary between 12°C and 16°C over the next week.

The weather office has advised commuters and travellers, especially in high-altitude areas of Arunachal Pradesh, to remain cautious due to reduced visibility and possible slippery conditions during early morning hours.
