Guwahati: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast thunderstorms, lightning, heavy rainfall and gusty winds across Guwahati and several districts of Assam over the next two to three days, prompting authorities to issue a public advisory and strengthen preparedness measures.
According to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), isolated areas in Guwahati city and across the state are likely to experience spells of heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning. The western districts of Assam are expected to be particularly affected during the period.
Officials warned that the anticipated weather conditions could worsen waterlogging in urban areas, disrupt vehicular movement and increase the risk of localized landslides in vulnerable locations.
In response, district administrations and emergency agencies have been placed on alert and are closely monitoring the situation. Authorities said emergency response mechanisms are being kept ready to deal with any eventuality arising from the adverse weather.
ASDMA has urged residents to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions. Daily commuters and long-distance travelers have been advised to plan their journeys carefully and avoid unnecessary movement during periods of intense rainfall.
The disaster management authority also appealed to people living in low-lying and hillside areas to stay alert for signs of flooding and landslides.
Officials said weather updates and advisories will be regularly shared through ASDMA’s official website and social media platforms. The public has been urged to follow official weather bulletins and instructions issued by local authorities to ensure safety during the expected spell of inclement weather.
