Guwahati: The Guwahati Police Commissionerate has announced special security measures around examination venues for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET-UG) 2026, scheduled to be held on June 21, with prohibitory orders to remain in force near all designated centres across the city.
Issued under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), 2023, the directive establishes a restricted zone extending 100 metres from each of the 15 NEET examination centres in Guwahati. The move is intended to safeguard the integrity of the medical entrance examination and ensure its smooth and transparent conduct.
According to an order signed by Deputy Commissioner of Police (Administration) Nirupam Hazarika, access to the restricted areas will be limited to candidates carrying valid admit cards, examination personnel, on-duty police officers and authorised government officials associated with the examination process.
The restrictions have been introduced as a precautionary measure against any attempt to facilitate malpractice, particularly through digital communication platforms and social media networks. Authorities said the curbs are aimed at preventing activities that could compromise the fairness of the examination.
The affected examination venues include Dispur College, PM Shri Kendriya Vidyalaya CRPF Amerigog, Krishna Kanta Handiqui State Open University, Kendriya Vidyalaya Khanapara, Kendriya Vidyalaya Adarsha Colony, Pragjyotish College, Arya Vidyapeeth College, KC Das Commerce College, KV IOC Noonmati, PM Shri KV Narangi, Cotton University, Handique Girls’ College, B. Borooah College, Guwahati College and Guwahati Commerce College.
Police officials said the order will be effective only on the day of the examination and is intended to maintain order around the venues while minimising the risk of disruptions or controversies related to alleged use of unfair means.
Authorities have also warned that any violation of the prohibitory order will invite legal action under Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023.
