Guwahati: Assam Women and Child Development Minister and Kamrup district Guardian Minister Ajanta Neog on Sunday inspected the under-construction Old Age Home and Child Care Centre at Bongaon Camp in Boko, a major social welfare initiative expected to become Asia’s second-largest integrated facility of its kind.

The project, being built at an estimated cost of Rs 82.58 crore, is nearing completion and is likely to be ready within the next three months. During her visit, Neog reviewed the progress of construction and examined the facilities being developed to provide residential care for senior citizens and children in need. Officials from the department accompanied the minister during the inspection.

Speaking to reporters, Neog said the Child Care Centre has been planned with separate accommodation for different age groups to ensure children receive care and support suited to their developmental needs. She also said the Old Age Home will be equipped with healthcare services and medical facilities to provide quality care for elderly residents.

The integrated campus is intended to enhance Assam‘s social welfare system by offering a safe and well-equipped environment for vulnerable children and senior citizens, bringing a range of essential care services together at one location.
