As many as 14 antique silver coins and a pair of bangles, believed to be of Ahom era, were recovered in an interior village in North Assamโ€™s Lakhimpur district.

The coins and bangles were spotted by two villagersโ€“ Nitul Dihingiya and Tulin Gogoiโ€”in a paddy field at Aamguri village near Dhalpur in Lakhimpur district on Wednesday.

The coins have different shapes and sizes with both Persian and Devanagiri inscriptions, said a local.

It is widely believed that the coins may belong to the eighteenth century Ahom period in Assam and of Mugahl India.

In November, 2019, similar antique octangular coins belonging to the mid-eighteen century were found in a paddy field in Dhakuwakhona.
