Guwahati: Disciplinary action has been initiated against Lakhipur Electrical Sub-Division engineer Dibakar Das after the Assam Power Distribution Company Limited (APDCL) suspended him over alleged lapses in restoring electricity supply.

An order issued by APDCL’s Chief General Manager (HR) confirmed that the suspension took effect immediately and will continue until the departmental inquiry is completed.

The inquiry will examine allegations that Das failed to restore electricity supply within a reasonable time and did not properly carry out his official duties.

According to local sources, residents of Binnakandi under the Lakhipur Sub-Division had been experiencing erratic electricity supply for several days.

Frequent and extended outages during the summer reportedly affected everyday life, making it difficult for people to charge electronic devices and manage routine household work.

Residents claimed they repeatedly lodged complaints with the power department, but the interruptions continued without any permanent corrective measures.

The issue was later brought before Lakhipur MLA and Assam Minister Kaushik Rai, sources said. Senior APDCL officials subsequently reviewed the complaints, following which action was taken against the engineer.

As per the suspension order, Das will receive the subsistence allowance admissible under the applicable service rules while the inquiry is underway.

He has also been instructed to transfer charge of his office to an officer authorised by the competent authority until further orders.
