Guwahati: Assam’s flood situation remained alarming on Wednesday, with 10 more flood-related deaths reported during the past 24 hours, taking the state’s overall death toll to 41.
According to the latest flood bulletin issued by the authorities, Sivasagar and Jorhat recorded three deaths each, while Charaideo reported two fatalities. Dhemaji and Karbi Anglong accounted for one death each.
Floodwaters continue to wreak havoc across 11 districts: Karbi Anglong, Golaghat, Charaideo, Kamrup, Jorhat, Dibrugarh, Nagaon, Dhemaji, Hojai, Kamrup (Metropolitan), and Sivasagar. The floods have inundated 939 villages spread across 40 revenue circles, affecting 6,40,129 people statewide.
The disaster has also severely affected agriculture, with 24,897.27 hectares of cropland still remaining under water, raising concerns over crop losses and farmers’ livelihoods.
Urban flooding also persists in four districts-Kamrup, Darrang, Kamrup (Metropolitan), and Dibrugarh. A total of six revenue circles and 16 localities or municipal wards remain waterlogged, affecting another 958 people. Of these, 11 localities are in Kamrup (Metropolitan), two each in Kamrup and Dibrugarh, and one in Darrang.
The state administration, along with disaster response agencies, continues to carry out relief and rescue operations in the affected areas while closely monitoring the evolving flood situation.
