Dibrugarh: The Hemolota Handique Trust of Jorhat (HHT) distributed school uniform sweaters to students of Kandhulimari Lower Primary School near Assam’s Kaziranga National Park on Wednesday.
โAs the year ends, we look forward to the new year and our journey ahead with special hope for positive changes. We wish every student a joyous new year filled with happiness and love,โ said Dr. Tapan Chandra Dutta, Chairman of the Trust.
The Hemolota Handique Trust returned to the school, located in Golaghat district, after almost a year. In January, the Trust launched its tree-planting campaign titled โMy School, My Treesโ (โMur School, Mur Gosโ) at the school, combining tree plantation with maintenance and aftercare.
It also organized a talk on โFlora and Fauna of Kaziranga National Parkโ by forest range officers.
The โMy School, My Treesโ project was launched to sensitize lower primary students about the importance of trees in saving wildlife, reducing floods, preventing soil erosion, and mitigating broader climate risks.
Several trees were planted by the students, all native to the Agoratoli Range and donated by Kaziranga National Park.
A local resident, Rashmi Baruwa, was appointed as a โMother Treeโ (Brikhyo Ma) to coordinate planting aftercare and replanting of saplings, if necessary, at the schoolโs request.
The Trust also provided durable fencing materials to protect the saplings.
โEvery plant is special and needs special care. The focus has been on growing fewer trees, but ensuring they grow well,โ said Mother Tree Rashmi Baruwa.
Other members of the Trust include Surajit Sharma, Udipta Dutta, Atreyee Handique, Gautam Barooah, Upanga Dutta, and Maitreyee Handique.
