Guwahati: Assam is gearing up for the April 9 Assembly elections as officials completed the first randomisation of EVMs across 126 constituencies in 35 districts on Wednesday.

The process began at 11 am in the District Election Officersโ€™ offices, marking a significant pre-poll step. Observers from recognised national and state parties were present to ensure the process remained open and impartial.

EVMs, along with Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trails (VVPATs), were assigned to constituencies through the automated EVM Management System. The digital process prevents human interference and guarantees fair distribution.

Authorities noted that having party representatives witness the allocation strengthens public trust in the electoral system.

Meanwhile, supervision has been intensified in sensitive regions. In Kamrup Metropolitan, officials have deployed two general observers, two expenditure supervisors, and one police monitor to track preparations, spending, and security.

The observers, Pradeep Kumar Krishnarao Dange and Him Shekhar Gupta for general duties, Ranjan Prakash and Rajat Sen for expenditure, and Aslam Khan for policing, have already assumed their responsibilities in Guwahati.

Officials also made helpline numbers available for voters to report issues or irregularities, reinforcing public involvement in monitoring the election.
