A comprehensive review meeting, along with a coordination meeting of police and civil administration officials, was held at the auditorium of Tinsukia College on Monday afternoon to assess the progress of poll-related arrangements.

Digboi: Preparations are in full swing across the Tinsukia District to ensure the smooth conduct of the upcoming Assam Legislative Assembly Election.

A comprehensive review meeting, along with a coordination meeting of police and civil administration officials, was held at the auditorium of Tinsukia College on Monday afternoon to assess the progress of poll-related arrangements.

The meeting was attended by District Commissioner Sumit Sattawan, Senior Superintendent of Police Mayank Kumar, Senior Superintendent of Police (Sadiya) Jagadish Das, Additional Deputy Commissioners Sanghamitra Baruah, Pankaj Kumar Nagbanshi, Mandira Baruah, and Election Officer Mayurakshi Dutta. Senior officials of the district administration, police department and officers assigned election duties were also present.

Addressing the officials, the District Commissioner emphasised the need for sincerity, coordination and strict adherence to guidelines to ensure that the elections are conducted in a free, fair and peaceful manner. He directed sector officers to inspect polling stations and verify the availability of essential infrastructure and facilities to prevent inconvenience to polling personnel. Stressing seamless coordination, he urged police and civil authorities to work in close cooperation throughout the election process.

Election Officer Mayurakshi Dutta delivered a detailed presentation outlining preparedness measures in line with the Election Commission of Indiaโ€™s guidelines. The presentation covered logistical planning, manpower deployment, security arrangements and procedural safeguards to ensure smooth polling.

According to the final electoral roll published on February 10, a total of 10,03,490 voters are eligible to cast their votes at 1,280 polling stations across the district. The electorate includes 5,15,714 female voters, 4,87,742 male voters and 34 third-gender voters.

Assembly constituency-wise figures show that 81 Sadiya LAC has 2,01,512 voters, 82 Doomdooma LAC has 1,47,990 voters, 83 Margherita LAC has 1,76,109 voters, 84 Digboi LAC has 1,47,098 voters, 85 Makum LAC has 1,58,430 voters, and 86 Tinsukia LAC has 1,72,351 voters.

The polling station with the lowest number of voters is Hanju Gaon Community Centre under 83 Margherita LAC, with 40 voters. The highest number of voters โ€” 1,271, has been recorded at Rajgarh Ali T.E. Staff Club under 84 Makum LAC.

Out of the total polling stations, 205 have been identified as critical. For efficient management, constituencies have been divided into zones and sectors. Altogether, 1,280 Presiding Officers and 3,840 Polling Officers have been appointed for election duty.

Notably, 343 polling stations will be managed entirely by women personnel. Each Assembly constituency will also have one model polling station.

A 24-hour Control Room has been set up at the office of the District Commissioner to provide election-related information and receive complaints. Citizens can contact the Control Room or dial the Election Helpline number 1950 for assistance or grievances.

Meanwhile, the districtโ€™s SVEEP (Systematic Votersโ€™ Education and Electoral Participation) Cell is conducting various awareness programmes to encourage greater voter participation and strengthen the democratic process.
