Guwahati: As Assam gears up for the April 9 Assembly elections, Congress has announced a strong campaign push, planning to contest nearly 100 constituencies and coordinate closely with its allies.
Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president Gaurav Gogoi revealed that the party has finalised seat-sharing arrangements, with 26 constituencies reserved for alliance partners to strengthen anti-BJP votes.
โCongress will field candidates in about 100 seats, and 26 are for our allies. In two of these, there will be friendly competition,โ Gogoi told the press.
He said the growing cohesion among opposition parties is reshaping the political scene, creating fresh challenges for the ruling BJP. According to him, the BJPโs earlier strategies are now under pressure as opposition groups present a united front.
โThe BJP did not expect opposition parties to join forces like this. They are now facing a coordinated challenge ahead of the polls,โ he added.
Gogoi stressed that this alliance reflects public sentiment in Assam. โPeople want a united opposition, and we are responding to that expectation,โ he concluded.
