Amid the political crisis in Manipur, the BJP has sent Assam health minister and NEDA convener Himanta Biswa Sarma โ€“ too woo the rebel NPP legislatorsโ€”who withdrew support from the chief minister N Biren Singh led coalition government.

Sarma reached state capital Imphal on Sunday night and along with Meghalaya chief minister and NPP leader Conrad Sangma, ND TV reported.

They will try to cement the gaps between the state units of the NPP (National Peopleโ€™s Party) and BJP, gaps that led to four NPP MLAs withdrawing support from BJP movement.

The combined visit of Sangma and Sarma โ€“ the architects of the BJPโ€™s efforts to cobble together enough numbers to form the government back in 2017 โ€“ comes at the behest of Union home Minister Amit Shah.โ€.

Sources said Conrad Sangma is reportedly trying to persuade his MLAs to reconsider their decision to withdraw support and join the Congress-led SPF, which is pushing for a special session of the Assembly to move a no-confidence motion against the government.
