The Railway Protection Force (RPF) of Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) recovered various contraband items worth more than Rs 23 lakh recently, an NFR official said.

The contraband items include banned drugs, liquor and ganja, which were recovered during regular checks and drives at various stations and trains over NF Railway, informed NFR chief public relations officer Guneet Kaur.

“The RPF also apprehended four persons for alleged involvement in the transportation of contraband items,” Kaur said in a statement.

Kaur informed that in an incident on September 1, 2021, acting on information, the RPF team of Badarpur jointly with GRP officials and local police of Badarpur conducted checking in train No. 03173 UP (Sealdah-Agartala Special) on arrival at Badarpur railway station.

During checking, they apprehended one person from the train. His bag was checked and 21 soap cases inside a toy car frame were found from the bag.

The soap cases were packed with heroin.

Later, the arrested person along with the seized drugs was taken to the officer-in-charge of the local police station at Badarpur for further investigation.

The total weight of the seized drugs was 267 grams worth about Rs. 18.69 lakh.

In another such incident on September 1, 2021, the Crime Prevention and Detection Squad (CPDS) of RPF at Alipurduar while checking train No. 05653 DN (Guwahati-Jammu Tawi Express) from Kalaigram-Dhupguri station, nabbed one person and recovered 26 bottles of liquor worth about Rs. 8,155.

Later, the apprehended person along with the recovered liquor was handed over to the officer-in-charge at GRPS, New Maynaguri, who registered a case under section 46 Bengal Excise Act.

Again on September 1, 2021, the RPF team of Dimapur while conducting check-in train No. 05669 UP (Guwahati – Dibrugarh special) at Dimapur railway station against carrying of contraband goods, apprehended one person.

The RPF team recovered a bag containing 6 packets ganja, weighing about 12 kg worth about Rs. 1.20 lakh from the arrested person.

Later, the apprehended person along with the recovered Ganja was handed over to the officer-in-charge, GRPS at Dimapur for disposal.

On that day, the RPF Task Force and CIB of Tinsukia along with RPF team of Furkating Outpost conducted a joint checking in train No. 05669 UP (Nagaland Express) at Furkating station.

During checking, they apprehended one woman from coach No. A-1 and recovered 3 packets ganja (wrapped with plastic) weighing about 6.29 kg worth about Rs. 62.90 thousand.

Later, the apprehended woman along with the recovered ganja was handed over to the officer-in-charge, GRP at Mariani, who registered a case under section 20 (b) (ii) (b) of the NDPS Act.

Moreover, on August 31, 2021, an RPF team of Agartala in different checkings conducted at Agartala railway station recovered unclaimed ganja weighing about 16 kg worth about Rs. 1.60 lakh.

Later, the recovered ganja was handed over to the officer-in-charge, GRP at Agartala for further necessary action.

On that day, the CIB team of RPF, Lumding conducted checking at Lumding railway station and recovered unclaimed ganja weighing about 8 kg worth about Rs. 80 thousand.

Later, the recovered ganja was handed over to the officer-in-charge, GRP at Lumding for disposal, NF Railway CPRO Guneet Kaur added.
