A delegation from Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) on Tuesday called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and reiterated their demand for an autonomous hill state.
“We have raised our demand for an autonomous state within Assam. Creation of such state is possible Under Article 244A of the constitution,” said Tuliram Ronghang, chief executive member of the KAAC.

“We are not demanding a separation from Assam, but we want our own state within Assam,” said Ronghang.
Ronghang said that Prime Minister listened to them carefully and said that if BJP government comes to power “he will seriously look into the matter,”
The delegation from Karbi Anglong was also accompanied by Assam finance minister Himanta Biswa Sharma.
