Five insurgent cadres linked to banned outfits were arrested and arms recovered during joint security operations in Manipur.

Imphal: A joint team of central and state security forces arrested five suspected cadres linked to different insurgent groups and seized arms and ammunition during a series of operations conducted across Manipur‘s valley districts over the last two days, officials said on Thursday.

In the first operation, security personnel apprehended two active members of the banned Revolutionary People’s Front (RPF), the political wing of the proscribed People’s Liberation Army (PLA), from separate locations in Imphal West district. The arrested individuals were identified as Mutum Mohen Singh (29) and Sanayaima Leichombam alias Quinton alias Leirangjao alias Leirengbi (50).

In another operation, security forces arrested Loukrakpam Ibungo Meitei alias John (42), an active cadre of the outlawed Socialist Revolutionary Party (SOREPA), from Kongpal Iranpham Thongkhong under Porompat Police Station in Imphal East district.

Security personnel also apprehended Heikrujam Hitler Meitei alias Rishi (18), an active cadre of the Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP), from the Kongba Laishram Leikai area in Imphal East district.

In a separate action, forces arrested Yumnam Seityajit Mangang (36), who is reportedly associated with an underground outfit operating in the Imphal valley. A .22 calibre revolver along with nine live rounds of ammunition was recovered from his possession.

The arrested individuals have been handed over to the concerned authorities, and further investigations are underway.
