Imphal: Panic gripped a locality in Manipur‘s Imphal East district after an explosion triggered by a grenade attack damaged property in the early hours of Saturday, officials said.

The incident took place at around 1:15 am at a residence in Kiyamgei Muslim Leikai under the jurisdiction of Irilbung Police Station. The explosive reportedly landed inside the compound of a local resident, resulting in a powerful blast that damaged a parked vehicle and portions of nearby buildings.

Although the explosion caused significant property damage, no injuries or loss of life were reported.

A team of police personnel and forensic experts reached the spot soon after the incident and began collecting evidence. Preliminary findings indicated that fragments from the explosive struck the vehicle and affected walls, doors and window panes of surrounding structures.

Investigators also recovered a handwritten note carrying the name of the banned insurgent outfit Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP) from the scene. However, officials said no group has formally claimed responsibility for the attack so far.

Police have registered a case and launched a detailed probe to identify those behind the incident and ascertain the exact nature of the explosive used.

Meanwhile, local Meira Paibi members condemned the attack, expressing concern over security in the area. They described the blast as alarming, particularly because it occurred in a civilian neighborhood located within what they termed a highly secured zone and urged authorities to strengthen measures to prevent such incidents.
