Imphal: Manipur Police have arrested seven individuals in separate anti-narcotics and enforcement operations conducted across valley districts over the past 36 hours, officials said on Sunday. The seizures include cocaine, suspected heroin and illicit liquor.
In the first operation, acting on specific intelligence, police apprehended two persons in Imphal West district for possession of cocaine, a highly addictive stimulant covered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985.
Sukham Rozar (25) of Sagolband Sayang Pukhri Mapal was arrested near RIMS Road, close to Nitayananda Mandir, with 4.6 grams of cocaine. In a separate arrest in the same district, Mutum Giriraj alias Pakpa (29) of Sagolband Meino Leirak was detained in his locality with 18.6 grams of cocaine. Officials stated that this marks the first instance of cocaine-related arrests in the state.
In a second operation in Bishnupur district, police intercepted a Tata Gold Sumo (AS 11 BC 5395) at Tronglaobi Makha Leikai under Moirang Police Station limits, recovering 26 soap cases suspected to contain heroin. Two individuals – Bicky Munda (22) of Charhajare village under Motbung in Senapati district and a juvenile from Hungpung village in Ukhrul district were taken into custody.
In a third operation in Imphal East district, police stopped a Mahindra Bolero (MN-06LB-6851) at Khabam Lamkhai and detained three individuals after recovering 215 litres of DIC liquor. The driver, Moirangthem Abinash Singh (27), along with Wahengbam Ichanmacha (46) and Thangjam Sumati Devi (49), were apprehended. The seized liquor, vehicle and detainees have been handed over to the Excise Department for further legal proceedings.
