Imphal: The Manipur Police has upgraded the Emergency Response Support System (ERSS-112) in compliance with the directions of the Supreme Court of India, providing citizens with seamless access to multiple emergency services through a single helpline number -112.
According to a press statement issued by M. Pradip Singh, IPS, Deputy Inspector General of Police, the enhanced system integrates key emergency services, allowing citizens to reach the police, fire services, ambulance, womenโs helpline, and child helpline by dialing a single number. The initiative is aimed at ensuring faster, coordinated, and round-the-clock emergency assistance across the state.
Under the upgraded ERSS, all emergency calls are routed to the State Emergency Response Centre (SERC), where trained personnel coordinate with the relevant agencies to ensure a swift response. The integrated platform is designed to improve efficiency by reducing response time during emergencies such as crimes, medical incidents, fires, and natural disasters.
The ERSS-112 also incorporates advanced technology to strengthen emergency response. Features such as GPS-based location tracking, vehicle panic button integration and real-time dispatch mechanisms enable the nearest available emergency responders to reach the scene quickly, enhancing the overall effectiveness of the system.
The unified emergency number provides access to a range of services, including Police (100), Fire Services (101), Ambulance (102), Women Helpline (181), Child Helpline (1098), State Disaster Response (1017), as well as Transport SOS and Vehicle Panic Button services, all through 112.
The Manipur Police stated that while the core components of the integrated emergency response system are already operational, efforts are underway to further expand and strengthen the network. As part of this initiative, the state government has submitted a proposal to the Ministry of Home Affairs seeking approval for 104 dedicated Emergency Response Vehicles (ERVs) to improve on-ground response capabilities and extend emergency coverage across Manipur.
The upgraded ERSS-112 marks a significant step towards modernising emergency response infrastructure in the state by bringing multiple public safety services under a single, easily accessible platform. Authorities have urged citizens to remember 112 as the universal emergency helpline to seek immediate assistance during any crisis.
