Assam Rifles briefs officials on Indo-Myanmar border security and Operation Sadbhavana initiatives.

Imphal: The Director General of Assam Rifles, Lieutenant General Vikas Lakhera, called on the Chief Minister, Yumnam Khemchand Singh, at Manipur Bhawan, Sardar Patel Marg in New Delhi on February 22, 2026.

He briefed the Chief Minister on the work carried out by the countryโ€™s oldest paramilitary force in the state. The Assam Rifles is responsible for guarding the Indo-Myanmar border.

An official statement from Imphal said that the Chief Minister lauded the Assam Rifles for its role in restoring peace and normalcy in the state.

Meanwhile, officials reported that the number of infiltrators per crore population along the India-Myanmar border rose sharply from 58 in 2014 to 525 in 2025. A total of 878 infiltrators were caught along the border over the past two years.

The Chief Minister was also informed that the Assam Rifles organised a Wheelchair and Walking Sticks Distribution Programme in Thoubal and Churachandpur districts, Manipur, on February 21, 2026, under Operation Sadbhavana, reinforcing its commitment to inclusive development and civilโ€“military cooperation.

Aid items worth Rs 2 lakh were distributed to 21 beneficiaries, enhancing mobility, dignity, and self-reliance among differently-abled and elderly citizens.

Assam Rifles also conducted an interactive session with the youth at Hengbung post in Manipur’s Kangpokpi district.

The session included 54 boys and girls from the villages of T/Khulen, Mayangkhang Khunao, Mayangkhang Thana, and Hengbung of the district.
