Manipur Rikhruri dam
Addressing a gathering at the ACI Auditorium in Punanamei village, Chief Minister Khemchand Singh announced the formal approval for the construction of the Rikhruri Multipurpose Dam.

Imphal: Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh visited northern Senapati district on July 8, 2026, and approved the Rikhruri Multipurpose Dam project to provide drinking water to 27 villages.

He also reviewed horticultural projects and held meetings with local groups, including the United Naga Council (UNC), to discuss regional development issues and community concerns.

Addressing a gathering at the ACI Auditorium in Punanamei village, Chief Minister Khemchand Singh announced the formal approval for the construction of the Rikhruri Multipurpose Dam. The project is expected to address drinking water shortages in 27 nearby villages.

During his inspection of the Potato Farm in Mao, the Chief Minister was informed by Horticulture Commissioner T.N. Panmei that inadequate funding over the past two years had severely affected crop production.

Acknowledging Maoโ€™s favourable climate for potato and flower cultivation, Khemchand Singh assured stakeholders that the government would discuss their concerns and take steps to revive the agricultural sector.

Accompanied by Deputy Chief Minister Losii Dikho, the Chief Minister also held a meeting with representatives of the United Naga Council at the Mini Secretariat Complex in Senapati town.

During the reception programmes, memorandums were submitted by the Mao Council, Poumai Naga Union (PNU) and the Mao Studentsโ€™ Union.

Responding to the demands, the Chief Minister said the proposal for a Multipurpose Skill Training, Trade and Youth Activity Centre in Mao would be placed before the upcoming Cabinet meeting.

He also assured that the government would hold discussions with concerned officials to ensure the implementation of the existing agreement with local potato farm landowners.

The Chief Minister was accompanied during the visit by several officials, including Deputy Chief Minister Losii Dikho; MLAs Tongbram Robindro Singh of Thanga Assembly Constituency, Sheikh Noorul Hassan of Khetrigao Assembly Constituency, and J. Kumo Sha of Karong Assembly Constituency; Commissioner (Home) N. Ashok Kumar; Commissioner of Horticulture T.N. Panmei; and Senapati Deputy Commissioner Dharun Kumar S.

Other officials accompanying the visit included Director of CAF & PD Nelson Yumnam, Director of Horticulture and Soil Conservation Devabarta Sharma, Chief Engineer of Water Resources Y. Homendro Singh, and Chief Engineer of PHED.
